George Graham was born circa 1794 at Three Fathom Harbour, Halifax Co, Nova Scotia.2
He was the son of John Graham and Mary Scott.
George Graham was baptized on 7 May 1794.3
He married Sophia Elizabeth Conrad, daughter of Johannes Conrad and Catharina Gertraud Halter, on 17 May 1817 at St Paul's Anglican Church, Halifax, Halifax Co, Nova Scotia; by John Inglis, Rector.4
George Graham died between 1864 and 1871 at Parkers Cove, Annapolis Co, Nova Scotia. His wife, Sophia, was enumerated as a widow with her son in law Alexander Turple at Parkers Cove, NS in the 1871 census.5,6
He and Sophia Elizabeth Conrad resided between 1817 and 1831 at Lawrencetown, Halifax Co, Nova Scotia, from the record of their marriage through the 1827 census to an indenture with brother Asa Graham on 23 Mar 1831 for property at Dartmouth, NS - lot G in the Town Plot bordering on the south side of Dartmouth Common. The 1827 census for Dartmouth/Three Fathom Harbour shows George Graham with 4 males and 3 females in the household. This agrees with George and Sophia Graham's household, providing strong evidence that George and Sophia Graham were still at Lawrencetown/Three Fathom Harbour, not Granville, in 1827. Although the births of all of George and Sophia Graham's children are reported in the IGI and Granville Township Book (p 263) as Granville, births before 1837 occurred at Lawrencetown/Three Fathom Harbour and Dartmouth, Halifax Co, NS. Note also the baptismal records of several of their children at St Matthews Presbyterian Church, Halifax and St Johns Anglican Church, Preston, Halifax County. The first recorded activity at Granville is the burial record of daughter Martha at All Saints Anglican Church, Granville, on 5 March 1837.7 George Graham and Sophia Elizabeth Conrad resided between 1831 and 1836 at Dartmouth, Halifax Co, Nova Scotia. The indenture for property on 23 March 1831 at Dartmouth has already been noted. An indenture for the same property from George and Sophia Graham "of Dartmouth" to Benjamin Eliot was made on 16 April 1836.5 George Graham and Sophia Elizabeth Conrad resided after 1837 at Granville Township, Annapolis Co, Nova Scotia. In the 1838 census, he was reported as a laborer with a family of seven. In the 1861 census he was reported as a farmer. Regretfully, the 1851 census for Granville has not survived.5 1856 Parkers Cove, Annapolis Co, Nova Scotia George Graham bought farm property from Thomas Eaton, which is still owned by the family. This he deeded to sons Andrew and Robert in 1864. |
